Look closely at the forest in every season

The forest collection explores the same woodland setting in spring, summer, autumn and winter. A broadleaf tree, a pine and a woodland footbridge connect the four scenes, giving children familiar features to search for as the surroundings change. The illustrations provide a setting for colouring, comparing shapes and discussing an imagined walk among the trees.

Begin by finding the two different tree outlines. Which details help the child tell them apart? Look for the footbridge and think about where a path through the forest might lead. On another seasonal sheet, identify those landmarks again and describe the changes around them. Encourage the child to point to something visible when explaining why the pictures feel different.

The woodland setting also invites stories about sounds, movement and exploration. Imagine standing beside the bridge: what might you hear, and where would you choose to walk next? A child can invent a character who returns to the forest in every season. Keep the conversation connected with the drawing while allowing imaginative additions that make the activity their own.

Each season has its own printable A4 PDF, opening in a new tab from the preview or button. Choose a single scene for a quiet colouring session or print several for comparison. Display the completed woodland pictures together and look for familiar shapes beneath the different colours. You can also compare this landscape with the park or mountain collections, discussing how the settings have different landmarks even when the season name is the same.
