A little imagination goes a long way

Two teams, sixty picture cards and a surprise wheel. Tell your story aloud, open your cards and frame the ones you use!

Tap once to open. Tap again after using the card in your story.
The green frame shows which cards you have used this turn.

How to play Tell Me a Story

  1. Make two teams. There are 60 illustrated cards: 30 characters and 30 actions. Each team receives 12 face-down cards: 6 characters and 6 actions. The remaining 18 cards of each kind stay face down in the shared draw piles.
  2. Teams take turns. Before each turn, spin the wheel and follow its instruction. A turn normally lasts 30 seconds; the wheel can make it 40 or 25 seconds.
  3. You can tap to open your cards before the timer starts. When the team is ready, select Start story. Tell a story aloud using as many of your cards as possible. Tap a closed card to open it. Tap an open card after using it to give it a green frame and a tick. Tap it once more during the turn to undo a mark if needed.
  4. When time is up, the framed cards stay visible so everyone can check them. Choose Next team to put those used cards aside and pass the turn. Unused cards stay in that team’s hand.
  5. The first team to use or put aside all its cards wins. Agree together whether each card was included in the story. Be imaginative and encouraging!

The eight wheel instructions

  • Draw one character card.
  • Add 10 seconds to your turn.
  • Put aside one action card of your choice.
  • The other team chooses whether you draw a character card or an action card.
  • Put aside one character card of your choice.
  • Skip your turn.
  • Draw one action card.
  • Take 5 seconds off your turn.

Extra cards are added face down. To put a card aside, choose one of the requested kind from your own hand. It is removed from the game, not returned to a draw pile. If a draw pile is empty, that instruction adds no card. Pause freezes the clock, and Full screen gives the game more room.

Little cards, wonderful stories

Tell Me a Story is a shared storytelling game for two teams. Friendly characters, familiar animals and everyday actions become the starting points for imaginative spoken adventures. A teacher might sail away, a rabbit could bake bread, or an explorer might discover something unexpected. There is no single correct story: the fun comes from connecting your ideas and listening to one another.

The game contains sixty illustrated cards, divided into thirty characters and thirty actions. Each team begins with six cards of each kind, all face down. The remaining cards stay in two shared draw piles. Before telling a story, spin the eight-part wheel. It may add a card, let you put a card aside, change your time, give the other team a choice or ask you to skip a turn.

A normal turn lasts thirty seconds. Open cards by tapping them, then tell your story aloud. When you include an open card, tap it again to surround it with a green frame. Framed cards remain visible until the turn ends, making it easy for everyone to check the story together. The next team then takes its turn, and the first team to finish its cards wins.

Choose full screen for a clear view of the wheel, central countdown and cards. You can pause when someone needs a little time, read the rules together or use the game as a relaxed classroom activity. Encourage surprising ideas, help younger children read their cards and celebrate each creative connection. The character pictures and action illustrations offer useful prompts whenever the next sentence needs a spark.
